Industrial curtain partition systems are among the lower-maintenance elements of a warehouse or factory facility, but "low maintenance" does not mean "no maintenance." A structured inspection and maintenance regime will extend the working life of the system significantly, prevent unexpected failures that could compromise safety or operational continuity, and ensure that the system continues to deliver its designed performance in terms of temperature, dust, or noise control.
The most important maintenance task is the monthly visual inspection. Walk the full length of every partition in the facility and look for the following indicators: panels that are torn, cracked, or have developed holes; panels that are not hanging flat but have developed permanent bends or kinks; hardware — hooks, carriers, clips — that are damaged, missing, or have worked loose from the track; track sections that have deflected, cracked welds, or loose mounting fixings; and seals at the floor, ceiling, and wall edges that have lifted, compressed, or been displaced. Any of these conditions should be logged and scheduled for rectification before the next inspection.
PVC panels in outdoor-adjacent or UV-exposed locations will discolour and become brittle more quickly than those in sheltered interior locations. The typical service life of a PVC panel in a standard interior industrial environment is 5–10 years, but UV exposure, solvent contact, or extreme temperature cycling will shorten this significantly. If panels in a specific area are failing more quickly than expected, investigate the cause before simply replacing them — the underlying environmental condition that caused the early failure will continue to affect replacement panels unless it is addressed.
Cleaning industrial curtain panels is straightforward — warm water with a mild detergent, applied with a soft cloth or low-pressure sprayer, is sufficient for most applications. Do not use solvents, abrasive cleaners, or high-pressure jet washing on PVC panels; solvents will cause immediate surface damage and plasticiser leaching, while abrasives will scratch the surface and accelerate UV degradation. For food production environments, use only food-safe cleaning chemicals and follow the cleaning protocol specified in your HACCP documentation.
Track systems require periodic lubrication of the carrier wheels and trolley systems — a dry PTFE spray applied quarterly is usually sufficient. Check that all mounting fixings remain tight and that the track alignment is true. On long track runs, thermal expansion can cause track sections to push against each other in hot weather — if this is causing panels to bunch or the track to bow, consult the installation team about adding expansion joints.
